Kiranss Shelter in London
Shelter for Women and Children
Kiran Support Services was set up in 1990 to meet the needs of women and children from the Indian sub-continent experiencing domestic violence and abuse.
Since its inception the Project has expanded its services to meet the needs of the wider Asian community and now provides a holistic range of services to its diverse client group.
Kiran Support Services believes that all women and children have the right to live free from violence and the right to leave a home or relationship where the risk of such violence exits.
Women experiencing domestic violence can be abused physically, emotionally, mentally, sexually or exploited financially. These abuses can arise in personal relationships as well as within extended families.
The services provided by Kiran Support Service are provided in a non-judgemental, non-directive form, in a culturally sensitive way, thus empowering women to make their own choices and decisions and to regain control of their lives.
Kiran Support Services provides safe, temporary accommodation to Asian women and their children and is the only agency of its kind in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. This is a service provided by Asian women for Asian women and children.
Mission Statement:
“To provide a safe, nurturing space and resource of high quality, where Asian women overcoming Domestic Violence (and their children) can identify options and develop skills that enable them to take control of their lives emotionally, financially and practically”

National Zakat Foundation Shelters for Women in London, Birmingham and Manchester
Shelter for Women
NZF is the first charity in the UK to set up dedicated housing projects for homeless Muslim women in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Inspiration for the projects emerged from shocking stories about Muslim women sleeping rough on park benches or selling themselves to feed their children.
Our high quality supported housing provides safe accommodation for destitute women who have nowhere else to turn. In addition to the three supported housing projects for Muslim women, NZF has also partnered with St Mungo’s Broadway and the Better Community Business Network to deliver a housing project for young Muslim male prison leavers.
Whilst Zakat is not used to acquire or maintain the buildings, it is used to cover the operational costs of providing a support service to their vulnerable and Zakat eligible residents. This supported environment is essential in developing their confidence, self-esteem and ultimately their ability to live independently upon leaving the project.
Qualified support workers deliver emotional, spiritual and practical support to the residents who are eligible for Zakat and help them cope with any difficulties they are facing.
