The Association of Muslim Lawyers has been active since 1993 and since its official launch in 1995 its membership and influence have been steadily growing. The various talks, seminars, conferences and careers workshops organized by AML since its inception have helped bring Muslim lawyers together – both professionally and socially. They havealso assisted lawyers not only to provide invaluable advice and assistance to the Muslim community, but also society as a whole.

The British Pakistani Lawyers’ Association (BPLA) was launched in October 2011 to promote and strengthen ties between the legal profession in the United Kingdom and the legal profession in Pakistan. It aims to provide a forum for the discussion of issues of mutual interest and concern, and for the development of professional and personal relations between members of the profession in both countries.

The JAC is an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB), sponsored by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). The JAC’s aims and objectives are agreed with the Lord Chancellor and set out in the business plan.

The JAC Commission
The Commission comprises 15 Commissioners who are responsible for ensuring that the JAC fulfils its role, achieves its aims and objectives, and promotes the efficient and effective use of staff and other resources. The Chairman of the Commission meets regularly with partners including the Lord Chancellor, the Lord Chief Justice, the Senior President of Tribunals, and the Judicial Appointments and Conduct Ombudsman. The Commission works closely with JAC staff and the leadership team.

The Law Society is the independent professional body for solicitors. We represent and support our members, promoting the highest professional standards and the rule of law. The Law Society exists to represent, promote and support all solicitors, so they in turn can help their clients. We also work to ensure that no-one is above the law and to protect everyone’s right to have access to justice. We promote England and Wales as the jurisdiction of choice and the vital role legal services play in our economy. We work internationally to open up markets to our members and to defend human rights while supporting our members with opportunities in the domestic market.

The aims and objectives of the Society are:
To promote and to develop the legal profession within the Asian community in the UK;
To represent its members and to support, develop and encourage Asians within the legal profession so as to assist them in their career aspirations consistent with the overall objective of enhancing diversity and equality of opportunity within the legal profession and the judiciary;
To develop relationships with representatives of Government, the Judiciary, the Law Society, the Bar, ILEX, their associated regulatory bodies, and other law and related associations in order to achieve aims (1) and (2) above;
To lead and/or to support campaigns that promote the objectives in (1) and (2) above;
To inform and educate its members and the community about legal and social issues that are of interest to, and affect, the Asian community;
To provide opportunities and events for members and supporters to meet, to exchange views and ideas, and to socialise.
