BPF Calls for Restraint, De-escalation, and Peace Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
British Pakistan Foundation (BPF) expresses its deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, including the tragic attack in Pahalgam and the airstrike in Pakistan. We are heartbroken by the loss of innocent lives on both sides and extend our sincerest condolences to the families and communities affected.
India and Pakistan share complex histories, rich cultures, and deep human connections. Here in the UK, countless British citizens have personal, familial, and emotional ties to both nations. These events reverberate through our communities, causing distress, division, and fear amongst our established communities in the UK.
Faria Ali, Chair of the British Pakistan Foundation, said: “The recent escalation of violence between India and Pakistan is deeply concerning. British Pakistan Foundation urges both sides to show restraint and return to meaningful dialogue. The human cost of conflict is too high, and its impact is felt far beyond South Asia, reaching families and communities here in the UK with deep ties to both nations. We also call on the UK Government to use its diplomatic voice and longstanding relationships in the region to actively encourage de-escalation and support efforts towards peace. Britain has a vital role to play in promoting dialogue, stability, and the protection of innocent lives. In moments like these, we must lead with compassion, responsibility, and a shared commitment to a peaceful future.”
BPF strongly urges calm, restraint, and de-escalation. Dialogue must prevail over aggression. We call on leaders from both nations to seek peaceful resolutions and prioritise diplomacy, justice, and the safety of their people.
We also call on British citizens, particularly those with ties to the region, to remain calm and united during this difficult time. We urge all members of our community not to retaliate or allow international tensions to create local divisions. Let us stand together in peace, compassion, and mutual respect — rejecting hate in all its forms.
Peace in South Asia is not a distant concern – it directly affects thousands of British families who continue to enrich the fabric of this country while remaining connected to their heritage. We urge all sides to act with courage and wisdom and to move towards a future shaped by mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
